Winton Veall once made headlines for taking TopSport to court over claims they allowed him to gamble while intoxicated, resulting in large losses. Now, the 75-year-old Australian finds himself on the other side of the fence, co-owning several online betting platforms and facing his own set of criticisms.

Back in 2022, Veall sued TopSport, alleging he suffered “psychological injury” from betting while drunk, as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald. In one striking incident, court documents revealed he placed bets totaling A$406,000 in less than two hours after consuming a large amount of alcohol. The lawsuit ultimately settled confidentially, and the specifics of any financial settlement remain undisclosed. Veall, who hails from a well-known Melbourne family and once dabbled in lounge singing, claimed his past with TopSport was unrelated to his ventures in the betting industry today. Skepticism persists, however, over whether his past litigation and current operations can be entirely separated.

Managing Multiple Online Sportsbooks

Veall now co-directs a series of online sportsbooks. Still, these include BetNow, PuntZone, BetNova, DashBet, MidasBet, and OnlyBets, operating under licenses in both New South Wales and Victoria. According to Veall, his legal history with TopSport doesn’t affect his gambling interests. “It’s a mutually exclusive situation,” he stated, addressing concerns about any potential conflict of interest. Nevertheless, Veall’s ventures haven’t escaped scrutiny. And the Herald reported a dissatisfied BetNow customer who claimed they received only A$2,000 from a A$2,598.55 win due to payout limitations on certain bets. After further investigation, BetNow eventually paid the difference as a goodwill gesture but firmly defended its terms and conditions.

Mixed Reception from Customers

Despite the issues flagged, Veall insists client satisfaction is paramount, attributing operational decisions to his business partner Da He. He, with experience from Tabcorp and Bet365, handles daily business activities. “To my knowledge, we have never had any difficulty with any of our clients,” Veall commented when addressing customer concerns. Customer reviews present a mixed picture. While some users have criticized withdrawal and verification processes, others have applauded the customer service offered by Veall’s betting platforms. This split reception reflects the wider challenges in maintaining a favorable reputation in the competitive online gambling sector.

What’s Next for Veall’s Ventures?

As Veall’s betting sites continue to navigate customer feedback and regulatory compliance, industry watchers will keep a close eye on how these platforms handle disputes and refine their operational strategies. Any regulatory actions or further allegations could impact their standing. For now, Veall and his team are likely focused on smoothing out these wrinkles as they forge ahead in the market.
