ITV Secures Exclusive UK Horseracing Broadcast Deal Through 2030

In a significant move for the horseracing community, ITV has secured a four-year contract to continue broadcasting UK horseracing events, ensuring that enthusiasts will have access to free-to-air content until the end of 2030. This deal reaffirms ITV’s commitment to delivering coverage of some of the most prestigious races in the UK, such as the Randox Grand National, Royal Ascot, Cheltenham Festival, and the Betfred Derby, among others.

The agreement, which spans from 2027 to 2030, promises coverage across 117 days of live events. Fans will be able to enjoy these broadcasts on ITV1, ITV4, STV, and STV Player, with all content being simulcast on ITVX. The inclusion of The Opening Show morning program is also noteworthy, providing comprehensive insights and previews of the racing events.

ITV Horse Racing, a division already riding high on success, is set to further its reach and engagement with this extended deal. The network’s horseracing broadcasts have been recognized with BAFTA awards in 2018 and 2024, and its presenters, Ed Chamberlin and Francesca Cumani, were lauded as broadcast presenters of the year in 2019. This level of acclaim reflects the quality and depth of ITV’s coverage.

The current year has been outstanding for ITV Horse Racing, with the division generating approximately 15 million streams. The Grand National attracted a peak audience of 5.2 million, while Royal Ascot gained a 20% increase in viewers year-on-year, totaling 5 million. The Cheltenham Festival also reached impressive numbers, achieving a peak of 1.8 million viewers over the past four years. Meanwhile, the Derby recorded a 1.3 million viewership, setting a new two-year high.

ITV’s partners have warmly welcomed the deal, recognizing its importance for both ITV Sport and the UK racing industry as a whole. Niall Sloane, ITV’s Director of Sport, confirmed that the agreement ensures the continuation of free-to-air broadcasts for key racing fixtures. This collaboration is supported by several major partners, including Racecourse Media Group, The Jockey Club, Arena Racing Company, and Ascot Racecourse, each expressing enthusiasm for the continued partnership.

Nick Mills, CEO of Racecourse Media Group, highlighted the deal’s contribution to enhancing British racing’s visibility. Jim Mullen, CEO of The Jockey Club, acknowledged ITV’s dedication to the sport, noting the substantial benefits this collaboration brings to the entire racing community. Felicity Barnard, CEO of Ascot Racecourse, praised ITV’s editorial prowess and production standards, underscoring the positive impact of the deal. David Leyden Dunbar, Director of Commercial Strategy at Arena Racing Company, emphasized the strengthened relationship with ITV, which now spans 14 years.

Brant Dunshea, CEO of the British Horseracing Authority, expressed excitement about the expanded audience reach. He emphasized the potential for innovation in broadcasting, aiming to increase engagement and sustain interest among racing fans—a critical focus in the industry’s strategic plans.
