On December 1, Penn Entertainment will officially open a new tower at M Resort in Henderson, Nevada, marking the completion of a $206 million expansion. This addition includes 384 new rooms, effectively increasing the resort’s overall capacity to 765 rooms. Alongside these accommodations, guests will be introduced to a new dining experience courtesy of a restaurant by a renowned celebrity chef.

Penn Entertainment’s CEO, Jay Snowden, conveyed his enthusiasm about this latest venture during a recent news release. Following the successful launch of the Hollywood Casino Joliet in Illinois, the company is eager to unveil the second tower, which features a restaurant from The Emeril Group. Snowden emphasized that this expansion is set to elevate M Resort’s already leading amenities, addressing the robust demand from both business groups and the thriving local market of Henderson by providing essential additional room capacity.

Todd George, the executive vice president of operations at Penn Entertainment, highlighted the significance of the resort’s expanded offerings. He noted that M Resort’s collaboration with the Las Vegas Raiders has been pivotal in cementing its reputation as a top choice for visitors and convention-goers nationwide. This partnership, combined with the resort’s new features, positions M Resort as a formidable player in the hospitality and entertainment sector.

The developments at Joliet and M Resort are merely the beginning of Penn’s ambitious growth strategy, which includes four key projects. Completing this $850 million investment plan are the upcoming opening of a hotel adjacent to the Hollywood Casino in Columbus, Ohio, expected later in 2025, and a new land-based Hollywood Casino in Aurora, Illinois, projected to open in the first half of 2026.

In addition to expanded lodging, M Resort’s meeting facilities will also see significant growth. A new 15,000-square-foot Montese Ballroom is slated to open on October 1, enhancing the resort’s capacity to host events and conferences.

To finance the M Resort project, Penn plans to secure $150 million from Gaming and Leisure Properties, Inc., during the fourth quarter, with a capitalization rate of 7.79%. This strategic financial move underscores Penn’s commitment to realizing its expansive vision.

Central to this expansion is the introduction of Meril, a restaurant from The Emeril Group, founded by celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse. This will be the second location for Meril, named after Lagasse’s daughter. The restaurant promises an inviting atmosphere and a diverse menu, drawing from Lagasse’s vast culinary expertise and international travels. Guests can expect a dining experience that beautifully balances sophistication and approachability, embodying Lagasse’s signature culinary style.

Lagasse is no stranger to the Las Vegas dining scene, currently operating Emeril’s New Orleans Fish House at the MGM Grand and Delmonico Steakhouse at The Venetian. Previously, he ran Table 10 and Lagasse Stadium at the Venetian/Palazzo, which closed in 2017 and 2020, respectively.

While Penn Entertainment forecasts a positive impact from these developments, some industry analysts suggest exercising caution. They point out that the hospitality and gaming sectors can be unpredictable, often influenced by shifts in the economic climate and consumer spending habits. However, others argue that Penn’s strategic location choices and partnerships, like the one with the Las Vegas Raiders, provide a robust foundation for sustained growth.

The addition of Meril presents an exciting new chapter for M Resort, offering guests and locals alike a unique dining option that complements the resort’s enhanced amenities. As the industry evolves, Penn Entertainment aims to remain at the forefront, driving innovation and meeting the needs of a diverse customer base.

In conclusion, Penn Entertainment’s expansion at M Resort is a testament to the company’s forward-thinking approach and dedication to excellence in hospitality. With a strategic focus on partnerships, quality amenities, and unique dining experiences, Penn is poised to continue its trajectory of growth and success in the rapidly changing market landscape. As the December opening approaches, anticipation builds for what promises to be a pivotal moment for both M Resort and the broader hospitality industry.
