Backseat Gaming Goes Fully Independent With In-House RGS and Weekly Game Cadence

Backseat Gaming has formally launched as a fully independent game studio, marking the end of a two-year internal build-out during which the company developed and tested its own proprietary random number generator (RGS) from the ground up. The studio said the technology stack is now built, hosted, and controlled entirely by its in-house team, removing any dependency on third-party infrastructure for its core game engine.

The shift to full technological independence is the central operational change. Rather than licensing or renting an RGS from an external provider, Backseat Gaming’s engineers constructed the system internally over roughly 24 months of development and testing. The company described the team as an expert in-house group responsible for every layer of the stack, from the RGS itself to the surrounding content-creation and delivery pipeline.

One New Title Every Week, Bespoke Games for Select Partners

With the technology now under its own roof, Backseat Gaming has set a production cadence of one new game released every week. The studio already has titles live across a number of operators and platforms, and pointed to a recent integration with Hub88 as the latest addition to its distribution footprint.

Beyond the weekly slate, the company said it plans to develop a series of bespoke titles created exclusively for select operators. Those custom games would be built on the same proprietary RGS and delivered under the studio’s own roadmap rather than through a shared or white-label arrangement.

The portfolio currently running on the new stack includes what the studio called standout player favourites: Born in Hell, Toad Town, and Totem Tower Bonanza. No further titles, release dates, or operator names beyond Hub88 were disclosed in the announcement.

AI-Assisted Design With a Human Layer

Backseat Gaming described its production methodology as pairing what it called cutting-edge AI and advanced technologies with a human design touch. The stated design philosophy prioritises clean, simple gameplay mechanics while pushing for what the company termed a bold creative direction. The AI component is positioned as a tool within the development workflow rather than a replacement for the in-house design team.

CEO Frames the Launch as a Structural Reset

Espen Oeye, co-founder and CEO of Backseat Gaming, characterised the independent launch as a defining moment for the studio, crediting the team’s multi-year effort to build a company that is “entirely our own.”

“Having full ownership of our technology and roadmap means we can move faster and stay closer to what players really want,” Oeye said. “We’re looking forward to building on the momentum we have already gained, as we continue expanding our reach across the global iGaming industry.”

Oeye did not specify which jurisdictions the current operator partnerships cover, nor did the announcement provide licensing details for the bespoke titles the studio plans to develop for select partners. The company also did not disclose the number of games currently live, the total size of its development team, or a timeline for the bespoke title rollout.

Why It Matters

For operators evaluating new slots suppliers, Backseat Gaming's move to a fully proprietary RGS changes the vendor relationship: the studio now controls its own release schedule, technology stack, and roadmap without a third-party RGS provider as an intermediary. The weekly release cadence and planned bespoke titles give operators a new source of differentiated content, while the absence of disclosed jurisdiction or licensing details means partners will need to confirm regulatory coverage before integrating the studio's games into their own offerings.
