Record Participation in Safer Gambling Week
In its latest report, the EGBA revealed that major strides were made in elevating standards across the European gaming market. An example of this progress was seen during the European Safer Gambling Week, which broke previous participation records. Notably, safer gambling messages were broadcast during live soccer matchesβa first for the initiative. The event also coincided with the launch of a new platform, safergambling.eu, offering region-specific resources for consumers such as helplines and self-exclusion services. “Hitting these participation numbers is a big win for us,” an EGBA spokesperson noted, emphasizing the reach and impact of safer gambling initiatives.
Use of Safer Gambling Tools Skyrockets
The EGBAβs 2025 Annual Sustainability Report paints a promising picture of the industryβs commitment to player safety. It shows that 26.7 million players, or 69% of EGBA member customers, had safety tools activatedβup 28% from the previous year. The organization also launched a Responsible Influencer Marketing Pledge, aligned with the newly approved European standards for online gambling harm. Financially, EGBA members saw their total gross gaming revenue (GGR) climb to $20.6 billion in 2025, a 34% year-on-year rise. This resulted in a total wagered amount of $315 billion, with member companies contributing approximately $4.3 billion to European economies.
EGBA Expands with New Members
The EGBA continues to grow its reach and influence, with Tipico joining as a new member and Yaspa as an associate member. EGBA Secretary General Maarten Haijer described the year as “landmark,” noting critical developments like Finland’s shift to a multi-licensed market and major advancements in anti-money laundering protocols and influencer marketing standards. Haijer stated, “These achievements mark large progress for the sector and set a strong foundation for future regulation.”
However, the EGBA hasn’t been without its challenges. The organization criticized a recent proposal for an iGaming levy, labeling it as “unworkable.”
