The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement reported that in November, gaming revenue from casinos, racetracks, and their associated entities reached $636.2 million. This figure represents a 14.2% increase compared to the same month last year and a 4.1% rise from October 2025. The notable growth underscores the robust performance of New Jersey’s gaming sector and its contribution to the state’s economy.
The state’s nine casinos registered a combined win of $236.8 million, marking a 5.7% increase over the previous year. Online gaming showed even stronger performance with revenues climbing to $253 million, an increase of 18.2%. Sports betting also contributed significantly with gross revenue hitting $146.3 million, reflecting a 23% rise year-on-year. The tax revenue collected from these activities amounted to $93.4 million.
Cumulatively for the year, gaming revenue stood at $6.38 billion, which is an increase of 10.4% compared to the previous year. Tax revenue for the year reached $794.2 million. Breaking down the yearly figures, casinos reported a win of $2.68 billion, up 3.6%, while online gaming continued its upward trajectory with a total win of $2.64 billion, a substantial 22.2% increase. Sports wagering contributed $1.06 billion in gross revenue, marking a 2.8% rise from 2024.
In the third quarter of the year, New Jersey’s casino net revenue reached $942.1 million. This figure is almost identical to the previous year, showing only a minor decline of 0.1%. The occupancy rate for casino hotels during this period was 84.3%, slightly increasing by 0.2 percentage points compared to the same quarter in 2024.
The expansion in revenue across different gaming segments highlights the sector’s resilience and adaptability, particularly given the competitive landscape and regulatory environment. New Jersey’s gaming industry continues to thrive amidst ongoing regulatory challenges and competitive pressures from neighboring states that are also ramping up their gaming operations.
Despite the positive growth, the industry faces potential hurdles. The expansion of gaming in nearby states, including New York and Pennsylvania, presents ongoing competitive challenges. Additionally, regulatory changes at both the state and federal levels could impact future revenue streams. The emphasis on responsible gaming practices remains paramount as regulators and operators work to mitigate the risks associated with gambling, such as addiction and financial distress.
The growth in online gaming and sports betting is particularly noteworthy as these segments have shown robust increases. The demand for online gaming continues to rise, driven by consumer preferences for convenient and accessible betting options. The rapid adoption of digital platforms and mobile apps has played a crucial role in the growth of this sector, offering a wide range of gaming options to consumers.
Meanwhile, the sports betting market remains a key driver of revenue, particularly with the popularity of major sporting events. As sports betting becomes more ingrained in consumer culture, operators are exploring innovative ways to engage bettors, including live betting and fantasy sports. However, the market dynamics are continually evolving, with new entrants seeking to capture market share, potentially affecting established operators.
Overall, New Jersey’s gaming industry remains a significant contributor to the state’s economy, providing jobs and generating substantial tax revenue. As the industry continues to evolve, it will be essential for operators to navigate the competitive landscape and regulatory environment effectively. Continued investment in technology and responsible gaming initiatives will be crucial to sustaining growth and ensuring the industry’s long-term viability.
Looking ahead, the industry is likely to focus on further enhancing customer experiences through digital innovation, which could lead to increased engagement and revenue. However, the need to balance growth with social responsibility will remain a guiding principle for all stakeholders involved.
