More than 50 brands are set to make their debut as Alberta gears up for the launch of online casinos and sportsbooks on July 13. Among the latest to join the fray, Penn Entertainment is planning to bring all three of its Ontario brands to Alberta. Initially, only theScore Bet was confirmed for Alberta, but now its Hollywood Casino brand has also been added to the list by Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC). Penn is now among seven companies set to enter the market with multiple brands.

Penn Entertainment Eyes Alberta Expansion

Penn Entertainment, eager to mirror its Ontario success, stands ready to use its brand portfolio in Alberta. Known for operating Hollywood Casino, theScore Bet, and theScore Casino in Ontario, Penn’s expansion into Alberta signals a strategic move to capture another Canadian market. Adam LaBerge, Penn’s Chief Technology Officer, previously noted that theScore’s media app has an equivalent user base in Alberta as it does in Ontario, suggesting strong potential for market success. Though Ontario’s gaming regulators don’t disclose brand-specific market shares, Penn’s confidence is buoyed by an expected $20 million investment and backing from MLB’s Toronto Blue Jays partnership.

Apollo Entertainment Expands Footprint

Apollo Entertainment is adopting a similar strategy, aiming to launch seven brands in Albertaβ€”all of which are already operational in Ontario. With new additions such as Grand Mondial Casino, Yukon Gold Casino, and Zodiac Casino, Apollo’s list of approved brands continues to grow. These efforts signify its intention to build on its Ontario success by replicating its model in Alberta. Meanwhile, 888 Holdings has also been added to the AGLC’s list of registrants. While the company runs multiple online casino, sports betting, and poker brands in Ontario, details about its specific plans for Alberta remain undisclosed.
