Representatives of the Primm family are optimistic about finding a new operator for their casino and hotel businesses near the Nevada-California border. Cory Clemetson, who handles the business interests of the family, noted that discussions with several major Nevada gaming operators have progressed significantly. Clemetson indicated to The Las Vegas Review-Journal that an announcement could be made within a week. Affinity Gaming, the current operator, previously announced plans to cease operations by July 4.

Shutting Down Threatens Jobs and Tourism

Affinity Gaming’s decision to close up shop casts a shadow over Primm’s well-known properties—Primm Valley Resort, Buffalo Bill’s, and Whiskey Pete’s. These have long been essential stops for travelers on Interstate 15. The shutdown could affect more than 300 employees, heightening concerns about the local economy, which leans heavily on tourism and roadside services. The potential new operator remains unnamed, but Clemetson is hopeful that business continuity, and most importantly, job preservation, will be maintained.

Regulators and Transition Plans

The Nevada Gaming Control Board has been looped into the discussions and is supportive of efforts for a seamless operator transition. Negotiations have piqued interest from various parties, including LV Petroleum LLC, though their current involvement is unclear. The Primm family has enlisted legal and advisory teams to prepare a new operating agreement. This would allow more active management by the family and open opportunities for reinvestment, given a debt-free operation.

Prospects for the Primm Region

The Primm family’s portfolio spans about 568 acres and includes 15 parcels along the I-15 corridor, a critical entry point between Southern California and Nevada gaming markets. The family sees long-term potential linked to the proposed Southern Nevada Supplemental Airport in the Ivanpah Valley, which could affect regional traffic eventually. Although timelines for the airport are uncertain, there’s optimism that future developments might stimulate area demand. For now, securing a new operator is pivotal to preventing the shuttering of these key tourism hubs. What’s next? An official announcement regarding the new operator is expected soon, aiming to secure Primm’s position as a staple stop for travelers.
